Released in 1967 "The Doors" was a classic debut album, recorded in 10 days it exhibits a band at a time when it had so much energy and which didn't fit into the laid back "love and peace" hippy summer of love vibe which had overtaken at least West Coast America.
The band had almost a jazz background but with a singer/poet in Jim Morrison who was the ultimate showman. Whilst steeped in the blues the band recorded an album which tilted it's hat to the blues ("Back Door Man" being the Willie Dixon song made famous by Howlin' Wolf and "Break On Through" was based on "Shake Your Money Maker") but which stretched out in all different directions ultimately being the template for such bands as Echo and the Bunnymen and many more shoe gazing bed sit folks through the seventies to the present time.
The Doors sound is unique and whist their flame burned only a short time it burned bright.
As such the "Track of the Day" has to be their cover of "Back Door Man" which you can watch below:-
